Editorial Policy

Our commitment to providing accurate, evidence-based, and trustworthy nutrition information.

Evidence-Based Standards

Every piece of content on Macronutrients.com is grounded in scientific evidence. We prioritize:

  • Peer-reviewed research published in reputable journals
  • Meta-analyses and systematic reviews over individual studies
  • Clinical guidelines from authoritative organizations (Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, American College of Sports Medicine, etc.)
  • Consensus statements from expert panels

We do not base recommendations on anecdotal evidence, trending diets, or unverified claims.

Content Creation Process

1. Research & Writing

All articles are written by credentialed professionals:

  • Registered Dietitians (RD, RDN)
  • Exercise Physiologists with advanced degrees (MS, PhD)
  • Certified Personal Trainers with nutrition education (CPT, CSCS)

2. Medical Review

Every nutrition or health-related article is reviewed by a second credentialed professional before publication. The medical reviewer verifies:

  • Accuracy of scientific claims
  • Appropriateness of recommendations
  • Correct interpretation of research
  • Balanced presentation without bias

3. Fact-Checking

We verify all factual claims, statistics, and research citations. Every claim that can be verified is linked to its original source.

4. Regular Updates

Nutrition science evolves. We commit to:

  • Monitoring new research in our content areas
  • Updating articles when significant new evidence emerges
  • Displaying last-reviewed and last-updated dates on every article
  • Reviewing high-traffic articles at least annually

Conflicts of Interest

We maintain editorial independence:

  • No product sales: We do not sell supplements, meal plans, or nutrition products
  • No paid placements: Companies cannot pay to be featured or recommended
  • No affiliate bias: Editorial decisions are never influenced by potential revenue
  • Clear disclosure: If we ever include affiliate links, they are clearly labeled

Our only goal is providing accurate, helpful information.

Calculator Methodology

Our macro calculator uses the Mifflin-St Jeor equation, validated by extensive research and widely considered the most accurate formula for estimating basal metabolic rate (BMR).

We multiply BMR by activity factors based on established guidelines, then adjust for goals (weight loss, maintenance, muscle gain) using evidence-based caloric adjustments.

We show our formulas and explain our methodology so you can verify the calculations yourself.

Corrections Policy

We take accuracy seriously. If we make an error:

  • We correct it promptly
  • We note the correction clearly on the page
  • For significant errors, we add a correction notice at the top of the article

If you spot an error, please contact us at corrections@macronutrients.com.
